With the purpose of gathering the jewish families living in the city of Alicante and its surroundings, offering the posibility of religious worship, holiday celebrations, community life and social development and exchange within a jewish context, in august 2002 a bunch of people from different backgrounds decided to organize the Jewish Comunity of Alicante Centre.
In october of that year, a little place at an ecumenical center was rented with the purpose of celebrating the Kabalat Shabat every friday, as well as all of the major jewish holidays.
In 2003 the Comunity registered in the Register of Associations of the Interior Ministry in Madrid, hired a rabbi to officiate the prayers during Iamin Noraim and asked for help to the FCJE in order to get a Sefer Torah, which was provided by the Jewish Comunity of Madrid.
In 2005, the FCJE approved a grant that helped define the lease of the current building for the Community, which includes a synagogue with capacity for 50 people. The synagogue was renovated and decorated by members of the community.
Since 2008, the Jewish Community of Alicante Centre is a member of the FCJE. It has approximately 200 members and conducts religious, social and cultural activities.
